Cedric Lewis: From the Streets of Greenville to the Screens of Tubi
1 February 2026

Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, filmmaker Cedric Lewis is proof that determination and creativity can transform any life story into success. As of February 2026, his latest film, A Gangsta Romance, which he wrote, directed, and produced, has become one of the most popular movies on Tubi.
Growing up, Cedric dreamed of being a football player. He was both a talented athlete and a track star during his high school years. But life took an unexpected turn when he became incarcerated — and that’s where his journey as a writer began. During his time behind bars, Cedric turned to reading for inspiration, exploring books by authors sold in stores like Wal-Mart.
It was there, in confinement, that he penned his very first book, King Pin Greenville, in 2004. Years later, in 2025, that same book finally hit the shelves of Wal-Mart and Target, marking a major milestone in his creative career.
After taking a short break for personal reasons, Cedric noticed the evolution of storytelling — many top authors were adapting their works into films. Inspired, he decided to take his vision to the screen. His first independent film, Devil In A Black Dress (2024), had a sold-out premiere in his hometown of Greenville, even though he chose not to release it on streaming platforms.
Since then, Cedric has worn many hats in the film industry — from director and sound engineer to cameraman — contributing to a total of eight film projects. Among them, his personal favorite is a forthcoming movie titled My Girlfriend’s Husband, which he is currently editing and plans to release soon.
When it comes to inspiration, Cedric looks up to Wahida Clark, a fellow writer who also began her career in prison, and to best-selling author James Patterson, whose prolific storytelling motivates him to keep growing.
Cedric’s ultimate goal is simple yet ambitious: to continue improving his craft and to see his movies streamed on major platforms like Netflix and Hulu. Through resilience and relentless drive, Cedric Lewis continues to prove that no dream is too far out of reach — no matter where your story begins.
