Marcus Bellamy’s story is rooted in family, perseverance, and the complicated emotions that can come with being a parent. A husband and father of ten, Bellamy says he has been raising children back to back since 2012. Through every challenge, he has worked to be the best man he can be for his family.
The idea for Memoirs of a Deadbeat began about ten years ago, after Bellamy was served child support papers following a breakup. The experience hit hard. He felt the label didn’t reflect the kind of father he knew himself to be—or the role he wanted to play in his children’s lives.
“If I wasn’t good at anything else, I was good at being a father,” Bellamy says.
Rather than tell his story as a memoir, Bellamy used his experiences as a father in South Carolina to create a fictional universe. Memoirs of a Deadbeat draws on the emotions and challenges he has encountered, while giving readers a story shaped by imagination. In the first book, Bellamy introduces five special characters who help bring that world to life.
The story also reflects Bellamy’s belief that parenthood can look different depending on where you stand. Having experienced the emotions surrounding family from a father’s perspective, he says he can also understand the mother’s side. That broader view gives the series room to explore the misunderstandings, struggles, and feelings that can shape relationships between parents.
Bellamy is now working on the second book in the series. Alongside writing, he is preparing for four movie roles over the next ten months and continuing to build Double Egg Network, which he owns.
Through it all, Bellamy credits his wife, Brittaney Bellamy, for standing by his side and helping him build an empire for their family. Her support, he says, has been an important part of the journey, along with his faith in God.
For Bellamy, Memoirs of a Deadbeat grew out of a painful moment—but it has become a way to turn personal experience into fiction and invite readers into a story about family, fatherhood, and the perspectives that often go unheard.
